The Complaints Project

The Complaints project is about experiences of local authority adult social care complaints. We know that making a complaint can be challenging, and that family carers of adults with learning disabilities want staff to better understand their experiences. However, there is little research about this, or about how social care staff think about and respond to complaints.

The project addresses the following questions:

  1. How do family carers of adults with learning disabilities experience making a complaint to their local authority adult social care department?
  2. How do local authority staff interpret and respond to complaints from members of the public?
  3. What aspects of their complaint experiences do family carers feel require better understanding and improvement by local authorities?

The findings will be used to co-produce learning resources for social care staff, students and members of the public.

The research is funded by the NIHR (208597) and led by Dr Francesca Ribenfors.
